About us
Built by someone who lived the other side of addiction.
Fresh Ground started with one woman's decision to stop surviving and start solving.
Liz's story
Liz's ex-husband was a substance user. Inside that marriage she survived abuse and sexual assault — the kind of harm that rearranges what you think you're allowed to expect from life.
She got out. And then she made a choice that most people in her position don't: instead of walking away from addiction forever, she turned toward it. Not toward the drugs — toward the reason people reach for them.
Because that's the pattern she watched up close. People use when they can't face what's real. Grief they never got to put down. Trauma nobody named. Shame that got louder every year. The substance is the exit door from a room they were never given tools to sit in.
Fresh Ground is the room, rebuilt. A safe address. A schedule. People who won't flinch when the truth finally comes out. Long enough for someone to do the actual work.
We believe in second chances, and that everyone has the birthright to recover, to have resources, and to live with honor and integrity until they get back on track.

The kitchen is where most of the recovery actually happens.
What we stand on
Our values
Second chances, without conditions
You don't earn your way into being treated like a human being. That's where we start.
Treat the cause
Substances are usually the symptom. We build the support that makes facing the cause survivable.
Honor and integrity
House standards exist because dignity is a practice, not a feeling.
Resources, not lectures
Rides, résumés, IDs, meetings, food, a phone charger. Recovery runs on logistics.
Safety first, always
Trauma-informed, survivor-led, and zero tolerance for anything that makes a resident unsafe.
Nobody leaves empty-handed
Even a departure gets a plan, a contact, and an open door back.
